I started my day out by hitting a policeman with my open hand right in front of our own home. True story. Curious, aren't you?
At 8:30 this morning, while I was kootchy-kooing the drowsy hamster and saying good morning to a sleepy Dawson, there was a ring of the bell and a knock on the door. And then a holler from Luke that there was a policeman wanting to speak with me.
I called Luke's bluff by answering with a, 'SURE there is, very funny.' To override my glib dismissal he knew he had to come look me in the eye to say, 'I'm not kidding, mom.'
Hmm. Still suspicious, I look out the window to see an actual police car in the driveway. I think my immediate response was, 'OH CRAP!' It's amazing how many thoughts can run through your mind within the space of 5 seconds. My first thought was, what can I put on fast enough to cover my pajamas-and still look presentable-but not take too long to communicate disrespect while he's waiting at the door for me to respond. I also wondered what on earth I might have done to warrant a visit from an officer of the law...and clinging to the value of what an upstanding citizen I am, hoped he was just here to ask about the recent neighborhood burglaries (that have sadly but truthfully occured). Somewhere in there I also wondered how things like this seem to happen when Tim is unavailable (he was in the shower). Lucky me.
I threw on a sweatshirt and hurried down the stairs with a few extra heartbeats, heard the radio in the background, saw the blue uniform, hands on the hips and then the HUGE grin on the officer's face. OMG. It was our dear friend, fellow soccer parent enthusiast, and in fact, officer of the neighboring police department. Nice.
That's when I started the hitting.
And then of course I had to send Luke up to hurry Tim out of the shower so he could have a heart stopping turn.
Thank you, officer! For showing the boys your cool police car and gadgets, for getting Tim out of the shower in record time, for the good natured 'scare,' for being such a sincere soccer travel team advocate for our boys, for taking your family on vacation with ours and for being such a good friend. =) Way fun.

What a hoot! So now Luke, the gadget man, is going into law enforcement?
Thankful that your hubby was home so that it did not send you into a panic thinking something had happened to him. He loves sharing all the cool things h the kiddos, one of the few perks of the job. We are blessed to have your family in our lives & we are very greatful for you ALL! Thank you for not being scared away by the disfunction of our lives.
