Mary Had A Little Lamb

This actually has more to do with Luke than Mary or her little lamb but I'll bring it all together by the end. You'll see.

Luke ended his first ever basketball season yesterday with a playoff game in 2nd place (out of 4 teams). For all you sports fans, they were the underdogs who held off the #1 team by staying ahead and ending the 4th period with a tie score of 19 - 19!!!!! Luke's team fianlly gave up the lead in the 5th period (8 minutes each) and who KNOWS/cares what the final score was! Well, Tim probably knows but I don't. I could go ask him but I wouldn't be able to hear him since he's hoarse from all the side-line coaching "cheering".

Luke's performance on the basketball court was great but it pales in comparison with the vigor in which he performs at home...when trying to delay bedtime, getting out of brushing teeth, protesting homework and other irritating tasks that parents demand. In hopes of channelling this expressive performing, I talked him into auditioning at the local children's theatre. Finally!

At this suggestion he displayed genuine elation and excitement. And then just before the audition, perhaps when reality set in, he completed his Oscar winning emotional range with fear and tears. Hmm, more fuel in my fire to search for someone, anyone on this planet, to witness these talents.

So we show up at the auditions for this children's MUSICAL with our lil' ol' selves and nothing else. As in, no CD or iPod or even a CLUE that he was to have something in mind to sing. After the audition he tells me  he was THE ONLY one without music accompaniment. Oops. Well, what do I know?

Naturally then I ask him, what did you sing? And that's when he smiles and says, "Mary Had A Little Lamb." Gutsy and brave is what I'm thinking.

Also thinking the souls at this community theatre are generous and committed to teaching and introducing the art of performance to newbies since he was offered the part of one of 15 'animals' in the production of 'Philadelphia Chickens' despite his warbly rendition of Mary. Woo hoo!!! We'll let you know how it goes. First performance is March 12th. Rehearsals start this week. Think I'm gonna go buy some honey and lemon juice. Or is that only for when your voice is sore?
